Workparty on Greens Island

Join us for a weekend work party on Greens Island as we work on our Bantry Bay gig Humanité and complete island service projects. This will be a hands-on, collaborative weekend combining boat maintenance, trail work, and time together on the island.

Saturday — May 2, 2026
8:45 AM — Ferry departs Rockland for Vinalhaven
10:00 AM — Arrive Vinalhaven
10:15–10:45 AM — Transport to Greens Island by local powerboat
Note: No float is currently installed at the Stone Pier. High tide occurs just after noon, allowing easy step-off from boat to pier. AC's power boat is currently being repaired. We will likely have a local person to Vinalhaven transport us.

Cost and Other Requirements:
A suggested donation of $50 helps cover three meals over Saturday and Sunday, as well as power boat transportation to and from Greens Island. No financial obligation to join.

Boat projects:
- Leather the oar ports on Humanité
- Repair and install new gudgeons
- Paint repaired section of the gunnel (3–4 ft section)
- Possibly paint the bottom (weather and space permitting)
- Oil other small boats
- Paint other small boats - where it's needed
Island Service Projects:
- Trail cleanup and tree work
- Move and reconnect the float to the Stone Pier (pending powerboat support)
- Small boat maintenance: Oiling, painting where needed.
- Debris, and trash cleanup
Participant Responsibilities:Transportation:
- Volunteers purchase their own ferry tickets, Rockland to Vinalhaven on the Ferry, R/T:
- Adults (18+): $15.75 round trip (off-peak rate)
- Youth (6–17): $8 round trip
- Bring your own lunch for Saturday May 2
- AC will provide:
- Saturday dinner
- Sunday breakfast and coffee and tea
- Sunday lunch
What to Bring:
- Tent and sleeping gear (or plan to sleep indoors if you do not have a tent, see lodging options below)
- Work clothes & sturdy footwear
- Rain gear and warm layers
- Water bottle, bowl, mug, spoon
- Personal items, medications and toiletries
- Tools if you have them - loppers for trail clearing, chainsaw (if you are experienced with it), work gloves

- Sleep indoors* priority for folks who do not have a tent:
- Powderhole — 4 people comfortably
- Yurt — 2 people

- Group dinner (provided by AC)
- Free time & overnight on island

- Breakfast & coffee in the Powderhole (provided)
- Work party continues:
- Trail cleanup
- Boat maintenance - oiling/painting the boats in the Naust
- General debris clean up, trash removal, and Powderhole organization
Lunch — Provided by AC, and pack up personal items.

- Powerboat transport from Stone Pier to Vinalhaven
- Ferry departs Vinalhaven for Rockland
- Arrive Rockland

- Purchase their own round-trip ferry tickets to and from Vinalhaven
- Bring their own lunch on Saturday, May 2
- Complete a brief background check through AC USA (required for all adults age 18+)
- Become a member of TSCA (Traditional Small Craft Association), of which we are a chapter. If you are not already a TSCA member, you can sign up yourself or we can sign you up. The annual membership fee is $35 per person/household. If you are enrolled in another program with us this summer, your TSCA membership is already covered through that tuition.
