Meet Bennett!
What are some of your favorite things about being part of AC? The pure fun and camaraderie of the amazing people who are a part of it. And the beauty and peace of Penobscot Bay. Also- long passages in the gigs where we sing and play tunes to while away the miles! How did you become involved with AC? It was Arista who had the brilliant idea to bring shanties into the Bantry Bay Gigs. I had been singing and rowing Cornish Gigs with Come Boating in Belfast, and she had the good instincts to know that the Bantry Bag Gigs with their musical makeup already forged by the oarports and wooden oars, would be the perfect vessels for this artform. I first taught worksongs and brought fiddle music to AC in summer of 2016 and have been a part of every year since. Have you had any other sailing/rowing experience? I'm a lifelong sailor, since age 7 (days) with my family in H12s and Bullseyes. In Rockport Harbor in JC9s and 420s. And as a deckhand aboard 4 of the local schooners. Where do you currently live? Belfast, Maine What are some things you do in your professional life or study beyond AC? I'm the Director of Bagaduce Music in Blue Hill, a Garlic Farmer, and I tour extensively as a musician. What are some of your current hobbies? Papercutting Art, Grilling, Nålbinding socks and hats If you could wake up with a new skill tomorrow, what would it be? Flawless minimalism What animals do you feel a kinship with? Bears, Otters, Beavers, Dogs Favorite meal/food? Bún Thịt Nướng Favorite song to sing while rowing? Rolling Home to Old New England! |
