We offer rowing opportunities to the public in Belfast harbor, Maine throughout the summer season May 15th - October 15th.
Join a crew of up to 13 people for a one to two hour row aboard a Bantry Bay gig, a 38' 9" wooden copy of an Admiral's gig of the 18th century French navy. All ages, primarily 14 and up, and all levels of experience. Come try it out!
Personal Flotation Devices (pfds) provided. We'll guide you through the steps of how to row smoothly, and safely. Bring a water bottle if you have one. We'll take occasional breaks to rest, take in the views, or change a layer.
There is room in the boat for ten rowers, each pulling a 16-18 ft long oar, and up to 3 spaces for those who want to ride along. There will be one coxswain operating the boat and guiding the rowers. If we have more than 10 rowers signed up, we may switch people around midway to give everyone a chance if desired. We need a minimum of 6 rowers for a row to happen.
We'll contact you with as much advance warning as possible, at least the night before, if the row is canceled for not having enough people, or for weather reasons.
A suggested donation of $10-20 helps us keep going. We'll compensate the song leader or coxswain from the donations, too. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Singing Rows:
Bennett Konesni, Executive Director of Bagaduce Music in Blue Hill, will lead occasional call-and-response Singing Rows. Singing while rowing helps keep the rowers in time, and is an incredibly fun way to pass the time. No experience necessary. Our singing rows with Bennett are co-sponsored by Bagaduce Music.
