Bookbinding & Boating!
Thursday August 3 – Sunday August 6, 2023
Edgecomb, Maine
Deepen your own partnership with Nature and craft by learning the art of bookbinding using simple hand tools, paper, thread, and materials found in nature. We'll discuss other handcraft ideas, too. All tools and material will be supplied.
We will stay and craft together at a lovely boathouse connected to a home on the Damariscotta River in Edgecomb, Maine. We will craft in the morning before lunch, and spend the afternoon rowing and sailing on the river by way of 18th-century Bantry Bay gig. We will have options to explore meditation, yoga, the tarot, and walking a labyrinth to serve as tools for self-reflection, to inspire craft making and for community building. This is an all-ages expedition designed for those who wish to be part of a community in learning traditional seamanship and craft making skills in a fun, supportive atmosphere.
All meals will be provided. There will be a menu in place based on dietary needs, and participants can assist in the cooking with one of our Instructors. There will be options to either tent on site, or there are a handful twin beds available inside in common spaces, in shared lofted spaces, or in a separate bedroom in the boathouse. Bring a sleeping bag. Use the packing list as a general guideline to consider gear needs. Parking on site.
Ages 14 and up. No prior experience necessary. Program starts at 12pm on Thursday August 3rd, and ends at 4pm on August 6th in Edgecomb, Maine. Group size limited to 10 participants plus instructors.
Instructors: Arista Holden, Olivia Carlson-Keene Bookbinding Specialist: Carita Crawford
