Meet Michael!
How long have you been sailing? I’ve been sailing log canoes for 40 years. I’ve been boating nearly my entire life. Bought my first boat from my father-in-law when I was eight years old. In addition to log canoes, I have also raced penguins, and star boats. I’ve done several ocean races including five Bermuda races. How long have you been restoring and maintaining log canoes? 40 years, since I was 18 years old. Where do you currently live? I live in Wittman Maryland on Maryland’s Eastern shore, Chesapeake Bay country. What's are some of your favorite parts of sailing log canoes? Sailing is a team sport. Everyone on board a log canoe is vital to every sail. Work together as a team or you swim. We are the current caregivers of these hundred plus year old boats. They are beautiful, graceful, and in our hands. We do the best we can for these old boats of the Chesapeake, so that future generations can enjoy them, as well. What are some of your hobbies? Triathlons, open water, long distance swimming, hiking, yoga, doing art, and creating beautiful things and situations. If you could wake up with a new skill tomorrow, what would it be? Hands down, it would be singing and playing the piano. Is there an animal you feel a kinship with? Dolphin by sea, and a horse by land. Favorite meal? Barbecue, spareribs, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, lima beans, salad, and cake. Also, carnitas! |
