THE PACKING LIST FOR GREENS ISLAND:
All of your gear, excluding tents, should fit inside one or two medium-sized duffel bags, dry bags, or backpacks. The bag should be something that is durable, easy to carry, and if not already waterproof, can be lined with a large plastic bag for waterproofing.
Summer on Greens Island can be foggy and damp. The average temperatures in July are a high of 75 F and a low of 58 F. You can expect to see a range of all weather––sun, rain, fog, thunderstorms, wind, and no wind. The list below is all you need to stay relatively comfortable in all weather.
There are squirrels and raccoons that live on Greens Island. Although not as prolific as on the mainland, there are some ticks we've been seeing in recent years, so it will be important to do thorough and frequent checks on yourself.
A Note on Electronics and Cell Phones:
Please leave phones at home, or if agreed upon depending on the program type, we may bring them, and leave them mostly powered off. All phone use should be done away from the group. We will have a professional photographer (Dylan Ladds) who will share photos. You're welcome to bring your digital/film camera/art supplies.
We will provide the following group gear:
––Meals, Water, Coffee/Tea
––Toilet paper (we have outhouses, bucket system)
––First Aid Kits
––VHFs
––Jackery Portable Battery for charging VHFs, Cellphones
––Soap
––Tools
––Life jackets (PFDs)
––Stoves
––Large Tarps to protect gear or to have group meetings under
Do not bring:
–– Drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes
A note on Bug Spray: Best practice is to spray far away from others, to avoid getting into their eyes/mouths/lungs, and away from eating areas and meal times.
Please get in touch if you don't have a rain jacket, sun hat, sunglasses, sleeping bag, tent, etc... We may have one or can help source one that you can borrow!
