Meet Becca!
What are some of your favorite things about being part of AC? The joyfulness of being in nature with kindred spirits. The generative, organic and egalitarian nature of the shared time together. The way the sea state becomes directly correlated to our own state of being. Healing in and through cold water. How long have you been involved with AC? Just a year--my first trip was the summer of 2023. I have known Arista and about AC for years though having lived on the midcoast in 2015-16 with folks who were students at the Apprenticeshop. Have you had any other sailing/rowing experience? Yes--I grew up sailing little sloops around Buzzards Bay and Westport Harbor with my family. I worked on a schooner named Valora for eight summers with my dear friend and captain Lu Yoder, running charters out of Vineyard Haven and Lake Tashmoo. I teach sailing classes at Wooden Boat, still sail in whatever free time I can find, and help my dad run our family's boat which is a 52' Beneteau Sense. Where do you currently live? In a cabin tucked back in the woods in Dover, MA! What are some things you do in your professional life or study beyond AC? I am a woodworker and I teach PK-8 Woodworking at Dedham Country Day School in Dedham, MA. I also get to teach woodworking at craft schools and museums on the weekends and in summers! I enjoy learning about the artistic development of children and adults, the history of craft, and ways that craft and art have shaped and continue to shape our world. I also am passionate about imagining and practicing ways to make a more accessible and equitable art world for all. Here's my website: www.rebeccalevi.us What are some of your hobbies? Being in nature. I love to hike, rock climb, bicycle, swim, backcountry and x-country ski, and row! On most Fridays during the school year I volunteer at a local veggie farm in Dover, since I have spent a lot of time farming both professionally and for fun. I have a huge flower and herb garden that I tend. Beach combing. Baking. Tree climbing with my partner who is an arborist. Trying any and all new crafts. Knitting, sewing, puzzling. I draw funky little abstract meditations, and draw architecture and nature from observation. On school vacations, if we're not traveling, I spend time in the shop and get lost in the process of making various objects out of wood like furniture, bowls, spoons and childrens toys. If you could wake up with a new skill tomorrow, what would it be? Celestial navigation What animal do you feel a kinship with? It's a rotating cast of sea birds. Gannets and buffleheads have captured my attention in the past year. Favorite meal/food? In the summer on the boat I love to make thai fresh rolls with rice paper wraps, vermicelli, fresh carrots, herbs, and tofu or chicken with ume plum vinegar and hoisin sauce... Favorite song to sing while rowing? Round Cape Horn sung famously by Gale Huntington |
